In the heart of downtown Santa Fe, NM, Jules Barth runs one of the most iconic vintage shops in the United States. Santa Fe Vintage Outpost sits on Palace Ave.. In a sea of art galleries, restaurants and gift shops lays her hidden gem; a clothing store that is filled with stories of the past. “Some things are amazing because they have holes,” Barth said as she described the process of curating her shop, “…they’re worn and dirty in the right way. Like, this guy really worked on the ranch in this fringe jacket or the cowboy hat with the perfect sweat marks…” she adds. Across the country you can find “vintage shops” in any major city, but what sets Santa Fe Vintage Outpost apart from the others is the history.
Vintage shops are rooted in stories of the past. The history of Santa Fe Vintage Outposts begins with the late Scott Corey. Barth and Corey joined forces in the early 2010’s to bring well curated vintage goods to the Santa Fe area. The pair spent countless hours hunting down, refurbishing and selling vintage products that captured the spirit of America. Eventually the community caught on. “I preferred to be a custodian of the Earth in that way,” Barth told us in regards to reselling vintage goods. As the world continues to mass produce trendy clothing, shops like SFVO pose as an anchor, not only in time, but in keeping Earth intact. Vintage shopping gained a mass popularity over the past few years and shops like Barth’s showcase why.
Santa Fe Vintage Outpost and Jules Barth are located at 202 E Palace Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
